Background Information


Bondi beach

Located 7 kilometres east of the Sydney central business district

Under the local government of the Waverley council

Sydney's Water Board maintained an untreated sewage outlet not far from the north end of the beach which was closed in the mid 1990s when a deep water ocean outfall was completed.

Bondi beach became a public beach on June 9 1882, before this, the beach was privately owned.

After the summer of 07-08 Bondi was ranked first out of 41 beaches for Compliance with swimming guidelines, with 100% compliance with bacterial guidelines.
